Undoubtedly the God of Thunder represents one of my favorite Marvel heroes and, more in general, a character with an incredible and very special appeal. His belonging to the Avengers' team and his divine nature perfectly coexist in an extraordinary, narrative balance within the Comic book storylines, while his main aesthetic features (the powerful and fascinating physique, the blue eyes and the flowing blonde hair, the huge cloak and the beautiful winged helmet, the legendary Mjolnir and the brilliant chromatic contrast of his suit's colors) make him a true catalyst in all Comic tables, able to literally switch on the fantasy and the imagination of any Marvel fan. The Royal Custom Brotherhood group recently devoted to this hero an outstanding 1:4 scale statue, sculpted by the talented David Pereira Ezcurra and released (in 2018) with a very limited edition size of only 50 samples. The piece is heavy and requires a suitable space for display, having a size of approximately 45 x 50 cm and a height of slightly less than 70 cm. The son of Odin exhibits an aggressive and dynamic pose, resting on a large base which depicts three rocky steps. Both the legs are bent with the impressive quadriceps supporting the weight of the body; the left arm is fully stretched forward with the hand open and tense, while the right one is bent back, with the hand wielding the hammer and ready to strike a devastating shot. The pose emphasizes the impressive and hyper-defined muscles on chest, abdomen and arms, with bulging masses on biceps and forearms. Note the incredible realism of the left hand's palm and fingers and the intriguing use of textures on the flowing red cloak, as well as on the skin on the uncovered parts of the body or the leather bands on boots. The great visual impact of this piece is also assured by the perfect painting and the brilliant colors used for the hero's suit, as the rather dark blue on pants and the bright red on cloak. Note also the excellent metallic appearance of the four, typical silver circles on chest, the golden belt at waist and the great chromatic contrast offered by the yellow-orange band on calves and the background black of boots and the rigid kneepads. Any muscle contour on arms and legs is pointed out not only by the excellent sculpt, but also by evident shades of colors, here realized in a very professional way. The base, as said, is rather large and heavy; it makes use of a beautiful texture simulating a rocky pavement and represents three subsequent steps, with a little tower on one side, enriched by golden and finely decorated engravings. The base is completed by the presence of a long thunderbolt (made of a blue and trasparent resin), which hits the top of the steps, literally crumbling the rock! In fact, the base shows a deep crack at the feet of the hero, while small fragments of rock appear at the impact-point and along the same lightning bolt. Some shorter thunderbolts even come out from the legendary Mjolnir, thus accentuating the feeling of dynamism, anger and power emanating from the character and increasing the scenic impact of the whole figure. The piece offers three inter-changeable heads, sculpted and colored in a masterful way. All of them exhibit a furious look, emphasized by the frowned eyebrows and a gaping mouth: the most traditional head includes the oval and silver helmet with a texturized surface and the classic, lateral white winglets, while in the second one the helmet is absent and the head is characterized by a thick beard and a long, flowing hair. My favorite head, however, depicts a bearded face and includes an helmet with a smooth surface, enriched with a sort of shaped visor to protect the eyes. Among the many pieces dedicated to Thor, this statue stands out for the original and pronounced dynamism of the pose, the excellent sculpt, the perfect coloring and the great attention paid to any detail; it confirms the very high quality of the collectibles released by RCB and, in my humble opinion, represents a true must for any Marvel collector and, specifically, all fans of the God of Thunder.
